Dental implant surgery is a procedure that replaces your tooth roots with titanium screw-like posts. The surgery replaces missing or damaged teeth with artificial ones that feel and function like natural teeth.

If you have had dental implant surgery, you are on course to securing your oral health for years to come. But, surgery is only the first step in the process. You also need to ensure the right setting to help the jawbone heal.

At AV Dental Wellness Group in Lancaster, California, we specialize in dental implant procedures and has helped many patients recover their smiles. We've put together some important information about the dental implant aftercare process in this blog.

What Happens After a Dental Implant Procedure?

Once the effects of the anesthesia wear off, you may experience minor pain, bleeding, and discomfort. However, these symptoms only last for a couple of days, and you can feel them taper off slowly but surely.

While minor bleeding is a normal occurrence in the first few days, you should contact us and visit the office for a closer assessment if the bleeding continues or is significant.

If you have a hard time managing the pain, over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen or aspirin can help. You can also apply an ice pack to reduce the swelling and minimize any discomfort.

What Can You Eat After a Dental Implant Procedure?

Right after the dental implant procedure, you should try consuming softer and more liquid foods. Once you switch back to a regular diet, chew away from the implant site as much as possible. Continue this routine for a few weeks to give the implant a chance to fuse with the jawbone properly.

Oral Hygiene

Maintaining good oral hygiene is essential during the dental implant healing process. However, you should be mindful not to put any strain on the treatment area, so you don't disturb the healing process.

You can brush and floss on the day of the surgery and rinse your mouth with a warm saltwater solution. However, avoid brushing or flossing the surgical site for at least a few days.
